Reply first where buyers complain
Every week someone describes your buyer’s pain in public. Be the most helpful reply.
When to use it
Your buyers talk in public forums (Reddit, Indie Hackers, Hacker News, Slack/Discord groups, LinkedIn comments).
Steps
- List five search phrases your buyer uses when they are stuck (“how do I…”, “anyone else…”, “alternative to…”).
- Search them daily in the two communities where your buyer is most active; sort by new.
- Reply within hours with a genuinely complete answer. Mention your product only if it directly solves the question, and say you made it.
- Save every useful reply; recurring questions become content and FAQ entries.
- Follow up in DMs only when someone asks for more.
Template
[Restate their problem in one line.] What worked for me / our users: 1. … 2. … (Disclosure: I build [product], which does [specific thing]. Happy to share how if useful.)
How to know it worked
Replies posted per week, profile clicks, and signups mentioning the community.
Common mistakes
- Dropping links without help gets you banned and remembered.
- Read each community’s self-promotion rules first.
