Lastware PickedForYou

How much of your worldview was picked for you?

Paste your social links or handles. We read what you liked, reposted and replied to, and measure how much came from accounts you chose to follow and how much a feed, a ranking or someone else’s share put in front of you. Only the posts about the world count.

A handle on its own (like yourname) is looked up on Bluesky, Hacker News and mastodon.social. We read public profiles only and save nothing. 3 free checks left today.

Questions

What does “picked for you” mean?

A post you liked, reposted, replied to or commented on is “chosen” when it came from an account you follow (or you submitted it yourself). Otherwise something else put it in front of you: a ranked feed like Discover or For You, a trending list, a front page ranked by votes, someone you follow reposting a stranger, or search. That second group is “picked for you”.

Which platforms are measured?

Bluesky, Mastodon and Hacker News publish what an account likes, reposts or comments on, and whom it follows, so we measure those from your own activity. X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook don’t publish it. For those we show each platform’s own published figure (for example YouTube: more than 70% of watch time comes from its recommendations), clearly labelled as an estimate, not your number.

Why only posts about the world?

Your worldview is shaped by news, politics, science, money and conflict, not by birthday wishes or software releases. Every post you engaged with gets a verdict: what kind of post it is (news, opinion, chat, joke, release…) and, for news and opinion, its topic. Only those count. Every percentage is computed from those verdicts, never written by the model, and the same profiles give the same answer within a point or two. Contextrie picks the clearest examples to show.

How is the headline number calculated?

It’s the average across the platforms you gave, each counting equally: on measured platforms, the share of posts about the world that were picked for you (or of all your activity, when fewer than 10 posts were about the world); on estimated ones, the platform’s figure. Tell us how many hours a week you spend on each, and it reweighs by time.

How do I take my feed back?

Every result ends with what to do about it. For each topic that mostly reaches you from accounts you don’t follow, it lists those accounts, so you can follow the ones you trust and mute the rest, or tells you when the posts are spread over many strangers and a setting matters more. Then, for each platform you checked, the settings that show you what you chose instead of what it picks (Following feeds, Favorites, paused watch history…), each with its source.

Can I change what I see?

On Bluesky, Mastodon and Hacker News, yes: Tune your own feed gathers recent posts from the accounts you follow and from those that reach you anyway, and ranks them by weights you set: a slider per topic (hide, less, as is, more, lots more) and one for how much comes from outside your follows. Move a slider and the feed reorders. To make it stick in the apps themselves, it suggests accounts to follow for the topics you turn up, so your own Following feed carries them without a ranking.

Is this stored? Can I check someone else?

We read public profiles only, the same way anyone’s browser can. Results stay in memory for an hour so you can unlock without re-running, then they’re gone; we never save handles or posts, and there is no public page per person. We only record anonymous counts of which platforms were checked.

What do I get for free?

Three checks a day (building a tuned feed counts as one), with the headline, how it reached you, every platform, your top 2 topics, your moves and the platform settings. A one-time $5 unlocks every topic with its example posts, the accounts you don’t follow that reach you most, who to follow or mute topic by topic, accounts to follow for your tuned feed, JSON export and unlimited checks, forever. No subscription.

Can I build something like this?

Yes. It runs on Contextrie (open-source context and state) and Bref UI (open-source interface). Both are on GitHub.
